2017 SA Midnight Ride

Post by Prof » Sat Jan 21, 2017 11:38 pm

We had a good ride last Wednesday night. The weather had cooled considerably over earlier weather reports, but was still quite warm once we hit the city. Got very cold a bit later once we hit the hills.

Jett had come up to Willunga earlier in the day to do some fine tuning on his week old KZ750 chopper. Peter rolled in a bit before 7pm on his twin cam. He has a pretty cool CB750 chopper, but is having some eye trouble and the Twin's lights are markedly better. As it turned out he peeled off home early due to a troublesome eye.

The three of us blasted out onto the road at 7pm and as usual I spent some of out riding time with the camera out trying for interesting photos and video footage...

We rolled into Villies just before eight to see two machines waiting in the carpark for us: Henry's chopped Evo Spoorty and Peter W's custom Twin Cam. He painted up a headlight for some practice a year or so ago and decided to put it on his bike and do a matching paint job. Many hidden skulls peek through the paint work... nicely painted Peter. Need some pretty cool airbrushing,,, call the man.

Peter's sissy bar is very cool too. Made from square bar that has nitches mahicned in it on the lather before assembly. It was built at The Chopper Shed and it took quite a bit of time to get the whole thing perfect. Peter had the eagle laser cut and welded in before chroming. Just needs a back pad to finish it...

A surprising number of bolts keep loosening on Jets KZ... motor vibratins much be just right to loosen things... but he keeps on top of it and there are a couple in particular that need wiring or locktighting...

Chris rolled in on his trail bike ( he recently got his learners, but has been an eager passenger for many years) and we then discussed possible routes. So in brief, we took off to Henley Beach and headed back to Brighton keeping to the esplanade as much as possible. They had a TDU event on in Glenelg and the main drag was blocked off so we ended up doing a few u turns before we got out of there... but hey, that's one of the attractions of these night rides unpredictability.

A brief stop at Brighton and Peter headed home with eye trouble and we rode on up Cement Hill adn across to Black's Road ending up in Blackwood and time to fill up those sporty tanks...

We then roared off through the darkened and almost deserted roads to Crafers and then a real blast up to the Mount Lofty Park. This pic taken resting the camera on a post...

Poor Peter W was really feeling the cold so after a quick look at the 'Adelaide lights (clearest I've seen them) we roared back down the hill and swung onto the Freeway...

The five of us took up two lanes, the choppers and bikes blasting down through the night past a number of lumbering semis... slow down into the tunnel and them twist five throttles; what a glorious sound!

Henry had a very early start the next morning and peeled of down Cross Road with us all giving him thumbs up and tooting our horns.

The city was pretty quiet, but we still got plenty of looks as the five machines made their presence felt up Lower Rundle Street, North Terrace, Hindley Street and into the narrow lane to park in front of The Pancake Kitchen. We had hardly dismounted when the door opened and one of the staff came out with a big grin and said, I thought it was you guys!

Well as usual food and conversation was most congenial and it was with reluctance that at well after midnight we reluctantly made our exit and got one more photo to record another righteous ride...
