Bl%%dy Kangaroo

Post by Tri4 » Fri May 10, 2013 12:07 pm

G'day All
Good news is hard to find in this area, but I hope you are all keeping the shiny side up, not like me
I hit a kangaroo on the way to work on the April 23, me being what I am didn't pick a small one, or a medium one, straight to the top and got the big one, stayed on for a bit, but got a wobble up and ended up hitting an embankment and into a 6ft ditch, the ambulance had trouble getting me out, don't remember much, proberly in and out of conciouslness, woke up in " Intensive Care Unit" , very dark day's followed, with a broken coller bone inside and out, 5 broken ribs, displaced lung, bruised heart, chipped and cracked bones in my lower back, along with extensive bruising from my neck to the buttock area, I guess I look a sight. A week in Intensive Care, then a week in Trauma ward they turned me loose and now I'm home, with my own pretty nurse to look after me, I can walk around a bit, but spend most of the time in a recliner, sleeping or watching TV, including nights, takes me all my time and effort to even send an email, and stuff like that, don't feel like doing much either, can't work, can't ride and I certainly can't catch the nurse!
I'v not been out to look at the Triumph since I got home, I'm hoping all is not so bad
I am on the phone and email,or PM me through the site should anyone need to contact me

Need a class action by all people who have hit roos against the bleeding hearts who think we should have more roos than people.

Would you like me to send you a pic of a roo and a set of darts?

Feel for ya, mate. Went thru a slight mishap myself  . Didn't get my own nurse though ! Lucky bugga.
Anything mechanical can be fixed, as long as you are in one piece, and recovering well. Take care and get well.

Maybe a private PO Box, so we can send you old bike/car mags ??

Hi Guys
Thanks for all the kind thoughts and wishes, not a lot of news from this end, I'm still sleeping in the recliner 24/7, if I don't sleep (mostly) I have the TV going ' but not much worth watching' have tried to watch DVD's but that's when I do sleep, so I have watched all the movies from start to 1/2 way through, I have tried to watch them from 1/2 way to catch up but I still seem to miss the end. I am getting some walking in, and that is strange with the feelings of weakness and dizziness and dis-orientation that goes with it. I have been trying to get out in the sunlight a little each day but it now looks like we are going to have rain for a while so we will have to wait and see.
I don't know weather to try to cut down on the pain killers, to take the purple edge off the sleep/dreams or just take the maximum, to get some more rest, and worry about the helluciations at a later time, both worry me a little.
If anyone wants to send me any old magazine's I have borrowed a PO Box for a while, PM me and I will send the number, and many thanks
Gerry

Dude, what a bummer!

Personally, I'd get off the drugs but then they didn't do anything for my pain anyway. It's a tough call between the physical and mental 'pain'.

Time is going to seem like it's standing still for a while and then suddenly 2 years will have gone by.

Good luck with the healing - it's amazing what the human body can recover from!

Well it seems the last 3 weeks has slipped away since I got home, I am improving slowly, with a little walking and some sunlight, I still haven't moved from the lounge room much, absulotley sick of the TV, still sitting and sleeping in my faithful recliner, I am mostly off the drugs now, but I am still struggling with the mind, I'v had one visit to my local Doctor, also one visit back to the Intenseive Care Unit for a check-up with their 'specialest', all seems to be going good,

Great news Matey, good to get sun on your skin, feels awesome after being locked inside for weeks. Or in my case, months....
One day at a time, slow and steady. Dont try to rush your recovery, your body knows how to heal itself. :D

Some sun and walks getting slightly longer each day, I think I am improving little by little, still not sleeping well at night, and still in my lounge chair, I have another trip to the ICU specialist next week we will get a full progress report then! I lost my nurse this morning, she had to fly back to work, ( after 5 weeks I am feeling very spoilt) this stint will be 4 days, then home for 4 days, a small challenge to see how I do. Then back to the 8-6 roster,(the big test).
The Triumph report; Not complete and only a brief inspection. Front guard destroyed, springer front down leg slightly bent, headlight and blinker setup scraped scratched but looks like they may work again, broken brake lever and switch gear, bent handlebars, fuel tank seems the dents missed, but is very scratched and scraped along the left hand side, looks like brake fluid all over the rear wheel, not sure where it coming from, seems like the brake rotors and front wheel are still straight, (closer inspection is needed) left hand floorboard is bent / twisted and loose. Red dirt is through the motor fins and just about everywhere you look, but overall I thing the bike came off better than I did.
Monday Dot (nurse and wife) organized one of her friends to come to the house and trim my hair and beard, took awhile as I couldn't sit for long, and had to stand and walk ever few minutes, but got it finished and going good now.
Well time to sleep now (maybe)!

There's an old song that says "One day at a time". That's all it takes and soon, little by little, you will get there.

I know everyone on here is rooting for you & wishing you well. Hang in old mate. Monday Dot will be being chased around the kitchen table before too long. Then you'll know you're almost there. :D
