Oil Tank

Post by steve » Sun Apr 18, 2010 7:43 pm

Hello me again with unusual question number 27

What is the opinion when designing an oil tank for how much air space is required? I would prefer the answer as a volume not distance as I would presume different tanks shapes would give different distance.

I try to leave about 10-15%.

If there is no breather back into the motor, you need to add a breather (say 5mm) out of the top of the tank or cap with a hose to rear. If you have no breather hot oil will tend to push out past the filler cap and create a right old mess.
