Harley do an 11" shocker. It is fairly wide at the top and bottom so you'd need to measure one before you bought it If it will fit, get a sportster shock as it has a softer spring.

Alternatively pick up a 12" shocker that can be shortened. You will need to pull it apart, unscrew the top eye and shorten and rethread the shaft, then cut the spring and heat and squash the end so it ends up reduced the same amount as the shaft.

Harley shocks won't fit an XV1000 properly, you could probably get them to mount but you'd be asking for trouble.

You can buy shorter aftermarket shocks for the XV (Progressive is one brand that's fairly good, I have progressives on my XV at the moment, another brand is Hagon, I have a set that I haven't tried yet, but I've been hearing reports of the Hagons being dodgy), alternatively, if you aren't fussed about the ride, you can wind down the stock shocks to their stiffest setting, which will shorten them a bit (some say up to an inch, but I haven't tried that)

FWIW

Here's a link to progressive site...

http://www.progressivesuspension.com/productsearch.aspx

I use Progressives for HD (previous post). Haven't ever checked to see if they do narrower ones... yes they do 11" to suit xv's as Neale said.

I just checked a new shocker from IKON I have that is the shortest they have and it is 12"

YSS shockers may be another option

He'll have about 2" clearance between tyre & guard & will probable scrap on a good bump.

Instead of changing your shocks you could use lowering blocks

Lowering bloocks will be tricky with the shaft drive.
When I get home on my PC I'll put a link to my bike build on hete
that shows the lowering block Xsesive did for my XJ900.
