No Helmet!!!

Post by caimbo » Fri Dec 18, 2015 1:34 pm

I've seen a few guys on the road with no helmet - is this allowed under some conditions or are they just outlaws :)

I know in SA when I started riding (early 80's) you didn't have to wear a helmet if you stayed under 25kph.

I don't know if that still exists or if it applied to other states as well.

I often used to ride without a helmet at night, sticking mainly to side streets and never got pulled over.

Looking back now I can't believe that I used to do that

Tigerbob is correct, It used to be legal in SA, under 25kph, but the pushbike riders complained when they got made to wear one at all times.
So, it is the law to wear one whenever you ride. Not sure on all states regs. Or, the cost of the fine, if you get caught without one.

Just found this for SA riders....... 3 demerits and $264. (+ $60 victims of crime)
