Concept: "The Built, Not Bought - Kustom Show"

Post by Chops » Fri Mar 23, 2012 5:01 pm

G'day Crew,

I hope it's okay to put this post in here..? As...

I'm slowly meeting folks locally.. with the same luvs/likes as me.. and something I've been wanting to get up and running for some time.. is an event.. or gathering.. of like minded folks.. with the same sort of loves and passions for Old Iron, Grease, Music and Beauty (Kustom Kulture Ladies / Pin Ups)...!?

There's a good number of folks who've built their own machines.. and there's also plenty of folks that like the idea of building their own.. but don't have the confidence to do it.. well.. a night with those that have done it.. could change that whole scene... and more an more.. 'Built.. not Bought'.. machines.. can be out there..!!! Yeeeehhhhhaaahhhh...!!!

It will take place in Qld.. more so.. North of Brissy (Redcliffe)... and aimed at Garage built, Classic, Vintage, Chopper, Bobber and Brat Style, etc, Motorcycles, Rockabilly Music and Kustom Kulture...!?

The idea is to keep costs down.. so that I'll try to keep it is 'free' and 'relaxed' event as possible...!? Hopefully get a fair few old bikes parked up... and vendors on hand... and a great band.. plus run a Pin Up Comp.. and put on a free feed..!? Anyways.. that's my current plans..!?

So.. in saying all that.. I'm keen for anyone who's interested to make contact with me (PM or Email).. be you a builder/exhibitor, volunteer (ideas and/or help)... and especially small business/builders who are involved in those types of Motorcycle builds.. and or can supply, make or resell parts/components of the same ilk..!?

Also looking to run it around August....!?

Regards,
Chops

There you go, I think you've just answered your own question.

However, Greazefest grew out of dissatisfaction that some folk had with WinterSun. Way too commercial and expensive they thought. It was held on the same weekend and just down the road at Kingscliffe. Now that GF is just as expensive as anything else, maybe there's a place for a low key, cheap grass roots event. Maybe a one day thing on Saturday. Maybe along the lines of the Unfinished project thing put on by 47 Industries.

Make it about the cars and the bikes, not fashion.

Cheers for the advice... and no.. I've not planned this along the lines of Greazefest... more so.. It's about bikes and a few other things I have a passion for... but cars.. well.. I reckon that's pretty well covered up here in Qld already.. so whilst I'll enjoy if a few turned up.. it's really an event for bikes of all makes and flavours: vintage, classic, chopper, bobber, brat style, your style.. anything... as long as it's hand built and/or by a garage/shop that's also in to the kulture..!?

I've always loved the older era of bikes... as I grew up with Easyrider in my teens... and my Dad, his mates.. and my Uncles have always been in to bikes.. and as of late.. I've been inspired by the likes of Mags like GKM, Lowside, Show Class, One Percent, DiCE, etc, etc.. and events like Born Free, Invitationals, etc.. etc... DVD's like Hell on Wheels (Meatball), Devils And Angels, Choppahead, Choppertown, Brittown, TWT, Desperate Generation, etc, etc...

My plans are more about trying to get together... all those with the same interests (Young and Old (there a lot of younger guys, getting in to the older gear now a days)... and hopefully create a bit of a push.. to get the crew together more often.. to share ideas.. and encourage others that don't quite have the confidence yet, to build that bike.. that they also dream of..!?

What I'm aiming for.. is more directly pointed to Hand/Garage Built Motorcycles and those that build them... old or new (My preference is more to the older the better, but I'm not going to bias).... And yes.. the current plan is to do an afternoon/night event.. in facilities I already have access to, with a liquor licence and insurance..!?

I want it small time.. and as 'free' or at little cost as possible... hopefully getting support from the wholesalers I currently deal with.. and local bike shops that are in to the same sort of styles of bikes I like (I have a few in mind).. but it won't be controlled by those sponsors.. and if it looks to head that way.. well.. then I'll bear the cost myself..!?

This is not a money spinner.. I only hope to cover costs.. but keep them down as well..!?

I'd like to include a Rockabilly Band (Cause that's what I'm in to)... and a Pin Up Comp.. cause I'm a bit of lover of them also.. and who doesn't like to look at pretty ladies.. and they add a nice bit of flavour to the event...!? Vendors.. aren't a main priority.. but if someone is doing something.. that they can display that's about building or modifying old or styled bikes.. then I'm all for it.. ie: Leathersmiths, Seat Suppliers, Metal Fab (ie: Handlebars, hard tail frames, etc)... parts of the like that Lowbrow or Biltwell supply.. or kustom tanks and gaurds.. pinstriping, paint, etc, etc...

There's more to it.. like me putting my old Navy Chef Hat on.. and hopefully cooking up a free feed for those that attend.. and running my favourite DVD's.. etc, etc...

It's a concept.. that I'd like to get off the ground.. and so far.. elsewhere... folks are making me feel.. like it's needed, wanted, that it's worth it.. so I'll push forward.. but as what I've said about... really fits in well with what I think/believe this website and forum is all about.. I'd hope to include you.. and get advise and pro-active opinions.. to make sure.. I stay on track.. and hopefully see a fair few of you (local to the area)... on the day/night..!?

Like I've said.. if your interested... and anyone's keen, I'm more then happy to point you towards my plans.. and include you on progress..!?

You can PM.. or Email..?

Regards & Respect,
Chops

The "Built not Bought" concept is cliche and a little bit elitist IMO. I'd go for a more inclusive title.
