DL show and other QLD events

Post by steve » Tue Dec 31, 2013 9:54 am

Jamie
I have started a new thread as I want one that covers QLD bike shows and events.

I intend to get along to the DL show this year. I was also happy to see it was on again as I didn't hear about the first one. I look forward to any updates that you put out through the year. I hope this grows into one of the must see events.

I have gone to the Story Bridge show for many years, the last one I went to was at the new site over near Capalaba. I was not as impressed compared to some of the earlier story bridge shows. I can't say exactly why but it seemed like it has lost something.

In my opinion they stuffed up the Gatton swap meet this year as well.

The swap meets that have been on at the Australian Motorcycle museum have had a lot of potential. The main problem is the summer heat. If they keep the entry price reasonable I am sure they will get a lot of lookers.

Two years ago I went to Harry's old style bike show at Mt Alford. It had potential and I was hoping it would grow. I did not get a chance this year.

I guess we all like different things in a bike event. For me I like the bikes. I don't give a stuff who turns up or if there are 20 celebrities there. I just want to be able to have a good like at the bikes. I also like a bit of shade so I can take my time and not sweat my bum off. I often get a heap of enjoyment having a look in the carpark. It amazes me some of the bikes people ride to these events that would do well in the show but the owner is to modest to enter.

I have not organized a bike event, and I would not like to as it is not my personality. It must be hard to know what the average punter enjoys about bike events.
It would be interesting to see what others like in a bike show/swap meet or other bike event.
I hope this event is a success for you and please remember most of the people who go along and enjoy these events never say anything much, and wish they had when the good events stop.

Steve

Thanks bud.. will keep you all updated....

The Story Bridge is too flat... open paddocked.. and seriously lacks the kool old bikes of past..! Quiet simply.. it's lost its groove.. whether that be from the move.. or folks becoming lazy.. but me personally.. reckon if they moved it to a more landscaped environment.. and were more selective about the bikes they allowed in.. then it could build itself up again.. but unfortunately.. as it stands.. the car park attracts more show worthy bikes.. then the show itself.. but that's only my opinion...

I did Harry's in 2013... as I did in 2012.. but this time.. as a sponsor (DLM)... and unfortunately.. the speculative negative commenting prior (about the government and police).. seems to have kept a few in their beds.. and their bikes in the garage.. which again.. is a damn shame.. as this is an independently run event... was still a great show.. with some bloody awesome old iron on show.. so fingers crossed.. it continues..

The Ray Owen Classic up at Mt Tambourine was great in 2013 as it was in 2012.. and seems to be growing.. with more bikes in the show.. and carpark.. altho'.. I would like to see the older blokes lighten up about their 'period correct' BS.. as that sort of attitude will keep the younger lads away...

More and more bikes are getting to Garter Belts and Gasoline.. and Greazefest...so well worth a visit.. if not only to stalk the pin up girls.. LOL...

Sad to hear about Gatton.. as I had high hope their new way of holding off the early trade... might assist all in getting a fair go at the swap items..???

Fingers crossed a good number of independents and social clubs step up to kick off more shows in Qld.. as currently the calendar is mostly empty.. at the moment.. but.. if you travel interstate.. you'll still find a good number.. well worth a visit.. with me trying to secure a spot at Bankstown this year.. to promote DLM.. and take in the show (as I do every year that I can - altho.. having kids causes me to miss it occasionally... LOL.. the last two both born in April).. and I see each visit.. with great delight.. more and more old iron.. being restored or chopper'd and put on show..!!!

Plus there's a fair few lads.. organising runs/rides interstate.. and some in Qld.. to name some: City to Coast Chopper Run, Doomsday Ride, Farmageddon, etc... plus.. I've just heard from a local Qld lad.. of him possible holding a chopper related weekend.. on his old man's 60 acres... where he's hopping to maybe do up a circuit track.. and more... so fingers crossed on that one....

Qld'ers.... lets make 2014 bigger and brighter.. for Motorcycle runs and events...!!!!

If we keep the politics out of it.. it's got a half decent chance.. it could work...!!!!
