Ok another question
the exhaust system is as below i gather the middle section is a sort of baffle of some sort as all 4 go into it and 2 leave
should this be left in place or should i run 4 pipes straight thru

suggestions ?

thats the factory std exhaust. the weird looking middle part is just a collector for a 4-2 exhaust with a balance chamber in the middle to compensate for poor tuning and unequal exhaust preasures.(they are made that way so you can take the leader pipes off without dropping the whole kit and kaboodle.) the yammy inline 4 will be happy with 4 straight out pipes as long as it has some back preasure to keep the valves from being burnt.
others can tell you how to set up the exhaust as the 4 will crackle loud and obnoxious if its just straight through. but done right they throb with a sweet loud roar.
ive never done my own exhausts.. yet ive listened to some sweet 4 outs. 4-2's and 4-1's but how they got them to sound that way is beyond my knowhow.

here is a 750 with 4 pipes. sweet sound

some thing to look at down the track for now ill stick with the system and will run two out the back
the mufflers are rusted to hell and look like they have no baffles what so ever
see how it goes if we get it running mate and see what it sounds like without the mufflers ( evil grin )

I expect to being a trip up your way again soon ( my boss want to ride up & see a mate at tugun) so I can drop them off , unlees you need them sooner. :D
Rear Shocks off a 650 Suz Savage will fit straight on & are 10.5 inch eye to eye to drop the rear down. 8)

Re pipes... buy mandrel bends and cut and weld together. Re sound, a larger diameter will round out the sound. A perforated pipe at original size dwon the centre with the end of the bigger pipe closed around it will do a lot to take out the obnoxious loudness. Slach cutting will reduce harshness a bit as will a turnout. Pipes finishing a bit past your rear axle should allow the bike to run ok without rejetting. Open pipes and short pipes all lean the misxture leading to over heating and burnt exhaust valves. You can tune your pipes once chosen by making them longer than planned and trimming off 2" at a time in between blasting up the street. Set the length where the 'megaphone' effect comes in at reasonably low revs... you don't want it to bog down each time you take off at the lights... which will happen if you run really short pipes (drag pipes) without rejetting.

A fish tail will also quieten bike and provide some back pressure if you need it (my shovel doesn't). You can make your own fish tails by sqeezing the last half inch of your pipe in the vice. You can make it look quite good with some shaping... even adding a bit of 'v' ed flat to the top.

ok prof ta for the advice helps alot

but a question what if i keep the collector box (that takes the four to two )
and put two pipes out of that without baffles past the rear axle . Do you think i would have to re jet the carbies or would this give it enough back pressure ?
