mechanical oil pressure gauge

Hi again to one and all.
I'm looking at putting an oil pressure gauge on my triumph. I've seen plenty on ebay but l would like to know other people's thoughts regarding reputable ones compared with dodgy ones.
also I'm looking at mounting it exposed so I'm after something that looks neat and made to be mounted via a bracket as opposed to something that mounts within a housing.
Any ideas?

put one on an xs once mounted on the engine and it got shook to death ...i think if you buy one make sure it is oil filled

Agreed. +1.
Oil filled are the best for anti vibration. Have you tried the Drag racing shops? Companies like Autometer, VDO etc, build oil filled stuff for cars.

Tigerbob, did the gauge you got from Trojan come with the ability to attach a bracket to it? I checked the one on line but I'd like to see or be told how you attach a bracket to it. The photos don't reveal enough for me. Any ideas based on yours?

There is only a square spigot (about 15mm x 15mm) that has a groove that could be used for an external circlip.

I haven't got any way of getting photos off my phone at the moment but will try to remember to post a photo of the back of the gauge in the next couple of days.

Cheers for that. l actually sent Trojan an email today asking the same sort of questions. From what you have said, it does sound like they're the way to go.

As a Maintenance Fitter, I've fitted 50 of these things, of all sizes. Never had to make a bracket for one that small, they just screw in tight to the tapped hole because the thread on 99% of them is tapered.(1/8th BSPT from memory) Square is just for tightening with open end spanner. Or if you're a Sparky, a 4" shifter............ 8)

If I could make a suggestion about these pressure gauges, avoid the 100psi and get a 0-60 or even 0-30 gauge.

I don't know much about old triumphs, but the Harley's rely more on oil volume than oil pressure. I have a 0-60 psi gauge, and most of the time the needle is flickering around 10psi. With the needle using so little sweep of the gauge it really makes it hard to tell what's going on when flying down the road. More important than seeing amount of oil pressure is just knowing there is some pressure.

For example If I had that 100psi gauge on my motor, despite the fact that I know I am getting excellent oil flow, the needle would barely be raised of the stop pin.
