xv 250 why not .....

Post by luke57 » Thu Sep 03, 2015 9:08 pm

Hi guys....
Thought I'd post up a bike I have started working on, brought it off my mate for $800 bucks in parts sitting in his shed, so I've started putting it back together, got a few different idea's like a rat-bike or the old school chopper look.
anyway now that I have just returned from holidays thought I would start throwing some money at it and get this bike on the road.

Wow...psychedelic paint job on the frame. Looks like you got exhaust, frame and tank sorted. Interesting.
Keep us posted.

My mate did the paint work, exhaust will most likely be chopped or modified in some-way ...as most of theses 250's sound terrible, finishing of the rear guard this weekend, and should have the rim's back from the powder-coat guy by Tuesday next week ....main issues are wiring , as I have no clue what I am doing, but I have spoken to bloke who is going to help me out ....... (if only I was still in Adelaide I would be around at the chopper shed :D )
Anyway will post more photo's as I continue my work.

So I have decided to go with 1'' bars,

I was looking at hiding all the wiring through the bars for that clean look, but because virago 250 is set-up is for 7/8 bars I am looking for some universal indicator switchers / high low beam and a electric start was wondering your thoughts ? before I go ahead and buy ....something like this

Pulling wiring through z barslooks good but is a pain. Most easily done with a piece of dog chain (which will easily negotiate the sharp bends when shaken).

Disadvantage is if bars have to be re-straightened or you want to change bars.

Get a manual and enlarge the wiring diagram and copy it. If it has clutch disengage switch or side stand switch, you can leave them out. I also don't bother with kill switches. If you are wiring from scratch, you will save some wire.

Depending on the year of the bike, you may not be required to have all your switches on the bars. Ignition switch in particular can go under seat and save some long wiring runs.
