One for Chucky(or any other knowledgeable punter) - seat id?

A place to put pics of wild cars you own or come across as well as discussing other stuff of particular (legal & legitimate) interest...

One for Chucky(or any other knowledgeable punter) - seat id?

Post by matt black » Tue May 25, 2010 7:51 pm

Ok - once again not a chopper.
Story is I am building a cafe and a chopper at the same time. So bear with me - chopper is part of the overall picture.
I pretty much have all parts for both bikes - well nearly.
This is a seat and tank combo I picked up and have spoken to Chucky about it before.
Just not sure what it is - Thought it may have been Dunstall - but sorta looks like a Phil Reed sorta thing? Rickman maybe?
Any help much appreciated.
First pic is as it is, second is what I want to do to it for my cafe.
Cheers
Matt

Ill argue the dunstall point until proven wrong......(its happened before)

and it is difficult to find a picture on the net of the correct unit, but theres no mistaking the tank as a Seeley unit....now from memory the unit your after was a
Seeley-Read titan with dual seat.....they were actually more common in Aus than lots of the other brands. not sure why but obviously we had a distributer here...probably Bennett Honda in Sydney....anywho....i did a quick web search and came up with

1976
Seeley shows the bike at the ´76 Earls Court bike show.
Dual seat FI Seeley introduced. (now thats the era i was thinking of, all others i saw on net were early K examples.) found this infor at http://www.seeley-honda.com/history.htm

i know ive kept a two wheels test of a Seeley titan (owned by a girl) in the stash and as iam having a sickie today ill track it down.....until then check out
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1tfreRSY34
at 2.14 theres a sexy race one...not dual seat but way Cool.

Before and After.
Seeley used an all alloy tank and seperate seat , Dunstall used to make an all in one unit similar to matts, a lot were made for SR500s and went straight over the stock tank ,not to say that is a dunstall there's a lot of knock offs around but it pretty close to one, still a good score. Cheers.

Flarris i dont doubt that the unit shown in your pics is an early dual seat version....i did look for the pics i said i should have and found that it was a single seat pic...so no good....
but if you go to that youtube vid and frwd to 8.42 theres a pic of a dual seater, i beleive its similiar to Matt Blacks...and closer to the pic of the other i remember...

That being said i now doubt myself enough to bow out, certainly Seeley were reknown for there alloy tanks....and Dunstall often used a single combined seat/tank unit......so ive been absoloutly no help but have enjoyed the pics......

Hi,Cromag I prefer the pic at 8.58 on the youtube link, nice lines, jury might be out on exactly what breed that seat/tank is, probably a custom built hybrid, it still looks good. Cheers.
