Custom mini speedo mount...

A customer has been building a modern long bike chopper. Some time back we made a stainless mount for his mini speedo. However, he realised with his long forks, the longest speedo cable we could get was 2" too short. Rather than get a custom made cable he asked if I could do a tidy mount that would lower his speedo 2". We were able and what's more saved him money by modifying the previous mount.

The white arrows in the photo show where the speedo originally mounted. The green arrows show the new position. The original mount can be seen at the bottom. A couple of angle grinder cuts and some careful bending (red arrows) allow the mount to fit partly inside the verticals of the risers, so the bolts are virtually invisible.

There in minimal space between the speedo and the verticals so the 1/4"UNF button heads need a groove machined in the underside of the head the thickness of the washer so they will bit. The 5/16" washer is needed because the original holes were for the larger bolts of the handlebar clamp...

The angle grinder cuts are welded up and the bracket repolished.

The bolts will be threaded into the risers. The speedo and mount are set in position and the risers marked, then drilled and tapped...

... and the whole kit and caboodle fits like a lady's dress glove...

the bracket is invisible to the rider...

... and quite tidy from the front of the chopper...

Well done, that's a neat little job.
