The Chopper Shed had four visitors Saturday; a couple of customers. One, a customer needing fibreglass mat for a muffler. The baffle blew out! Which he retrieved. Good thing there wasn't a car close behind. Rob also came up to try out the green sporty and Steed for size. In the arvo Jon rolled in with some starting problems on his Sporty...

Turned out main power and earth off battery were not sufficient to carry the starter amperage. So we needed to set up some good sized replacements.

A real pain with a lot of this era HD battery mounting is that the stock set up puts the connections towards the inside of the bike, making battery removal and terminal cleaning a real effort. More often than not, maintenance is neglected. I suggested we reverse the battery and Jon agreed.

Battery covers were modified accordingly. Jon has been up here quite often to do small and large jobs that he pretty well knows his way around the workshop...

Updated leads and battery terminals now accessible. Top and front decorative covers cut away to prevent any shorts (yellow arrows)...
Image

I usually solder these large fittings, but the crimper works pretty well too...

In between helping Jon, I put a new chain on my shovel and improved the rear brake cable adjustment. Chain is Regina x ring. I have found they last very well with minimal stretching...
Image

Swaged end on the brake cable is threaded stainless. I machine (always in stock) up these practical knurled nuts to fit. Make adjustment a cinch...

Both jobs done, Jon took up my offer to take the Steed and green sporty I have for sale for a quick spin. Finished off the afternoon with a half hour ride around local roads. Jon got to ride four different bikes... Steed, Sporty, my shovel and his sporty.

Jon had hardly left and Oscar rolled up on my diamond tank CB. He's had it at his work place. Lot folks have been interested in buying it, but Christmas is not the best time! So, a fun end to an interesting day.

Prof, in the pics above of your rear frame is the first time I noticed somethin' a little different with your axle plates...whats goin' on there...it looks like they are mounted on pivot bolts...are you hiding a swingtail in there?

Suspension I've developed over 10 years and patented. Just waiting on setting up a 50 ton press to press out parts and market it. Works perfectly, but not as simple as it looks. Allows Hard tail benefits with suspension.
