Vic rego for XS650 in Triumph rigid frame

Post by It wasn't me » Thu Jul 19, 2012 10:23 pm

G'day people, Hoping for a little guidance :-)
I've got myself an unfinished project that i'll be altering somewhat but first i want to understand the rego problems i face.
It's an XS650 motor (mid 70's i asume) and the frame looks to be an early 50's pre unit rigid that has been mildly raked.
Would it be rego'd as whatever year the engine is or whater the frame is or would it need to be rego'd as a newly constructed motorcycle ?

I think you will have to go down the ICV path and full engineering on it. VIC is the worst place to go through the process.

I have almost given up on using a modified frame in my XS project…I have three XS with one as a daily ride.

A question and possibly some help... If you complete it (seems like no structural welding involved), can you take it to Vic Roads and present it as a bike that was built like this 39 years ago... which looks like to be the truth structurally anyway?

If it was 'Purchased as a registered bike in SA", could it then go through Vic Roads without all the engineering etc or with minimal engineering?

That frame is a pre unit swingarm frame with a hard tail put on not an early 50s rigid.
Has it had rego on it in Vic before?
some meaningless dribble

to my way of thinking, type of engine is irrelivant....what is important is capacity,....so that means it'll be rego'ed as what ever the frame year is.

as long as same capacity drive train.

Good luck.

Need to put some more photos up so we can see what we are talking about…

Raking the neck alone requires engineering.. Looks like the motor is sitting at a forward lean also. This could affect oil levels???
