Selling my XS

Post by XSChop » Tue Aug 09, 2011 7:47 pm

Hey all,
Time has come I think to sell the XS650 !!
Problem is it's a great bike, goes like stink and never misses a beat (as all those on the mega ride know).
However it's not shiny with flash paint or anything like that. No bling !
And it's Bling that sells unfortunately.
Hence I can't see myself getting anywhere near what it's worth.

I hardly ever use it since the Mega Ride. Maybe one or two rides a year and because it's modified it doesn't qualify for club rego so the rego in NSW is really expensive just to have it sitting there.

So, do I :-
1/. Sell it for what I can get
2/. Let it run out of rego and just keep it as a momento rather than let it go for peanuts.
3/. Keep paying the rego each year which will soon ammount to what I could have sold it for.

All comments, suggestions and offers welcome.

Specs, 1973 TXA, 21" front wheel and sportster guard on 6" over forks, 16" rear and lowered shocks, Pillion rests removed, Single seat, Boyer ignition, 38mm carbs with big jets, Open shotgun exhausts, Short high bars on dogbones, Electronic speedo/tacho etc, Highway rests, Twin headlights, Stainless battery box.
NO modification to the frame so on Full NSW rego under the Owner Certified Modifications rules.
Steering is heavy at crawl speeds due to large trail but very nice once you are moving. Clutch is heavy by modern standards but only used for starting off really. No blinkers, not required but could be added if you like them.

Either way your at a loss, your into modifying bikes - strike 1 , your into riding bikes - strike 2 , your a bloke and you enjoy bikes - strike 3 your out . It,s obvious we do,nt do this to make money but the smile on your dial when you do ride it whats that worth, i agree with bacca mod it some more.
By the way nice xs, you dont see enough of these anymore.

Thanks for those comments guys and yes they are valid.

But I forgot to mention the reason for my decision is also that I have decided to build a new bike from scratch and firstly won't be able to keep both registered or ride both and need some cash from this one to do the build.
I have decided that no matter what I do to it the XS will never be my ideal bike so further mods would be a waste of time.
As it is it's great fun and goes really well but what I have in mind will be quite different and more suited to all the different requirements of riding I would like to do.

As I have mentioned to some it's to be a 1500c Howard engine in a 32 Sunbeam frame with variable belt drive etc etc

Well you asked.
What do I WANT for it ??
I want $5000 aussie dollars please.
I know that's top money for an XS and this one doesn't have flash paint and bling but I can't see being able to buy as good or cool a bike for less.

However I don't expect to get that so make me an offer ?
Anything. I won't be offended. I might not accept though.

However if someone does offer me good money I could well be tempted to deliver it anywhere in Aus (excuse for a ride).

No offers ?

Not one offer ??
Not even $1 ??
Ahh well it seems that's what happens when you ask a high starting price.
You scare people off making an offer at all.
Maybe they think I would be offended. I won't !

Hhhmmm yeah bit of a high starter for me. Personally i am in the midst of a project with some funds to be spent on a frame, but looking for a moderatly priced distraction. Better i just focus on whats in the pot already.

But having gone a few miles with this Yammy, id have to say its a real Rip Snorter and any buyer will be happy. Good luck with sale XS.
