Mega Ride Route

Post by Spokes » Thu Dec 04, 2008 11:29 am

Which way should we go?
If we use the Pacific Highway this means we get to show PC and Keith our beautiful Coastline but it also means that we have to deal with bigger places more traffic that big old freeway from newcastle to the outskirts of Sydney then skirt Sydney onto the Hume and the big @ss freeway to melbourne from there.
If we use the NewEngland as far as Tamworth then cut across to the Newell and go down through Dubbo, Parkes, Forbes, West Wyalong, Shepparton, Seymour and then the Melbourne crew can meet us somewhere around there.
If we go through Tamworth and stop there (maybe a second night stop) I have a friend 50 Kays the other side, who has the best setup ever and will be able to put us all up in bunks.

I like the coast but I would also like to see some interior......

One Idea
Day 1 (Sat 10th) - Brisbane to Tenterfield - 274km
Day 2 (Sun 11th) - Tenterfield to Wallabadah - 354km
Day 3 (Mon 12th) - Wallabadah to Dubbo - 366km
Day 4 (Tue 13th) - Dubbo to Narrandera - 393km
Day 5 (Wed 14th) - Narrandera to Bendigo - 369km

From here I think our Vic rep could meet us and escort us from Bendigo through to Ballarat to the GOR and onwards.
Those who are coming from the eastern sea board can organise to meet us at one of those places on the day that we are expected to arrive and carry on from there.

Any reasons why this wouldn't work? (constructive criticism only thanks)

I vote for corners and leave the straight stuff for the return trip.

GOR will be ridden on the way down, sorry but I think this has been decided already.

I like spokes idea about the first overnight stop, staying at a mates place.

I'm not voting on this yet because I really can't decide.
I have previously put up a detailed proposal for the leg between Newcastle and past Sydney which deals with the issues involved with tollways etc and offers some alternative side interests for that leg.
However it IS mostly all fast highway.
But those highways are at least Smooth and thinking of the Rigids makes me wonder how they would be on the inland roads in places.
Also I was working on the understanding that the objective was around 500km per day not the 250 to 350 indicated above.
I read that the plan was to arrive at Newcastle at the end of day 2.

Overall I think I am leaning towards an inland route but not so far inland that we miss the GOR.

Consider this. Hammer down the coast to Waughope and then turn inland up the Oxley Highway (best road for bikes in Aus) to Walcha and then Tamworth and then head south from there missing Sydney.
It's not about the Bling /:~)>
Well maybe a bit !

Yeah would make a great dragstrip along the Hay Plain, just imagine winding it out along there, 1 very wonderful road, unless you nod off
if you do go that way, 3 things to watch for, roos, emu's, and lots of damn sheep

That's a good idea too.

Maybe we just need to know where to meet each other near the state boarders and then just leave the route, accommodation and where to meet up with other members, to each state co-ordinator.

Leave it a mystery and just sit back and enjoy the ride.

Spokes is it possible to go to your mates place for one night then go back inland somewhere?

But over all I don't really mind which way we go.

QLD & NSW will meet at Booba's place in Feb to discuss where to meet each other.

Maybe the southern NSW people can meet up with the VIC guys some time to do the same and so on and so on.

I have a great route planned for you northerners, whichever way you enter "Mexico" but I would recommend that you stay at least one night, then we go one of two ways through to the SA border, each way will take us down the GOR.
But there is plenty of time to get that sorted.

And where are the rest of the Vic crew ??? A bit more Vic input would be really welcome.
