I picked up a 1964 Triumph Bonneville pile of parts just over a year ago, not because I wanted or need it, but because one of the parts in the package deal was a drum brake front wheel which I needed for my project. Also included was a pre-unit front end which we sold, and a 1964 Bonneville frame in good condition (albeit chromed) and with a clear title, of which we recently sold the rear subframe and swing-arm.
So with a spare Triumph front frame loop laying around taunting us, my 13 year old son has become keen on us building up a second Triumph Chopper for him, so we can one day ride side by side.
So I managed this week to find a nice new hardtail locally, being a Factory Metal Works piece with 6" of rear stretch. This is exactly the same item I'm using in my own bike, so I know it works and I know I can get it registered. I also have a very good spare 1982 Harley Sporter front end laying around, which will be ideal for this bike.
So next weekend I think we'll look at getting the boy's hands dirty and he can bolt his little chassis together. Heck we might even pulled the bars and risers off my bike, and pluck the wheels out of it, so he can get a rolling mock-up happening to help with inspiration.
