Battery Eliminator

I hooked this up on my Triumph T140 but I reckon it works on any bike with a magneto.
First rip the battery out and put in its place a capacitor, I used a 47000mfd-40vdc one($67) which seems to work well, you could try a lower mfd capacity which means smaller physical size but less grunt, wire it up as if it was the battery i.e. positve wire to cap +ve and negative wire to cap -ve. Mount securely with rubber or foam to cushion it against vibration, it doesn't get hot so ventilation isn't an issue.Capacitors wear out but the one I got was rated at 18000 hrs which equates to 2 years riding 24/7!!
Pro's - no bulky battery, no acid to check or spill
Cons - no power when motor not running, headlight may dim at low revs

tips - run tail/brake lights etc with led's(less current draw), don't fit to bike with electronic ignition(problems at low revs unless you run a cap that ends up bigger than a battery anyway!!)

what kind of mag are you running. I am just putting my T140 back together and have a spare joe hunt in the garage. I run one on my 66 Tbird and it works a treat, but we have done that more for the OS effect. Been wondering about putting one on the bonnie.

I used to run a hunt with capacitor and it was ok till I lost headlights on the side of the road at night and had no battery use for diagnostics. I understand people like to run batteryless but for everyday proper riding it's more pain than its worth.

Chucky - did u end up getting that "E-Batt" lithium battery ?
if so , whats your verdict / opinion ?

yep, it's ok but to really trust it you need to balance the cells to each other when charging. For this you need a small specialist charger. I'm trying to find a good one to use that can be strapped to the pack.

The crux is that the cells can explode if not charged equally!!
