 I'm sure the first Subaru wagons that came to Australia was an air cooled engine , there was a lot of talk around at the time indicating that Subaru & Honda worked together on the early goldwing engines.[/quote]

As I said I didn't think they had air cooled engines, but I'm happy to be corrected.

Click on Subaru 1000 in your link. :)
It was the first production Subaru to use a boxer engine.

In 1960, Subaru management decided to introduce a successor to the prototype Subaru 1500 with a new code name "A-5" with a four-cycle air-cooled horizontally opposed four-cylinder engine displacing 1500 cc, driving the front wheels in a compact car platform.

Sorry guys ..I will stop hijacking this thread  Love those NSU chops

Something I've always wondered on that point, does anyone know whether the Guzzis torque over to the right when you rev them, too, or was that just a Honda trick to add to the fun , revvin' my CX at the lights always gave my right leg a bit of a workout ;^)

Guzzi's are worse, Honda engineered the gearbox to rotate opposite to the engine, to counter the torque twist. Moto Guzzi internals all spin the same way.
