Our Mid Chopper

Hi guys,

Thought i would let you all see our latest project bike, this bike was built and customised as a promotional bike for my custom paint and airbrushing business, since finding this site, its given me alot of useful info to build our next large full scale bike..

This bike has been stretched 3" on the frame with custom extensions to mimic a rigid (makes taking the rear tyre off fun), the handle bars are a mix of the old apehangers lower mounts with a thumpstar 125cc top section.

The hand controls fit easily without any modifications.

The motor is only a mitsubishi 2 stroke 49cc but since this bike isnt used except for a static display (even though it does run), we have not taken out and given it a blast.

The paint is a custom mix of House of Kolor violette pearl and passion pearl, with the flames being pearl yellow and tangelo pearl.

Nice mate!!
How do you get on with HoK paint?
In my experiences with it i found it to be quite over rated over priced stuff!!!

I haven't had a problem with HoK so far, the paint colours are second to none, and are so versatile it isn't funny, i've tried spies hecker, ppg, protec and found these to be great but not as good, i guess if quality is everything then paying alittle extra does'nt matter

The paint system for HoK is far simpler compared to other systems too..

I will be looking at dupont further down the track.

Spies Hecker is too dear (owned by DuPont)
PPG Stands for P1ss Poor Gloss
And protec is some of the worst rubbish to be called paint i've ever seen, you're better off using bunnings emulsion!!
Don't just look at DuPont, get it and try it, use Centari for the kind of stuff you do, their clears are stunning.

HOK doesn't have the oxides of normal run off the mill paints so it doesn't get the same sort of coverage with out a few extra coats.Valspar now owns HOK and the cost has dropped by about 25% also.HOK is great stuff but just requires more work but the end results are more than worth it if done properly.

I use DeBeer paints of late and have found the coverage and ease of use great but I'm dying to try out some Valspar paint as there clear system is awesome.I've cleared my last 3 bikes with the Valspar stuff and it's been really good.Even did a mates bonnet with it and loved the outcome.

Before you go shooting at me,I'm not a trades quialfied a painter.I had to learn when I started making my pushies so all my experiance comes from trial and error in my shed,nothing more nothing less.So this is just my experiance with what I'm using currently.

Shame you're not nearer me, i'd get you in to paint some DuPont.......then you'd be converted!!

Ha ha ha,thanks pommy.I have painted a few now with the DeBeers but before that I used cemtech??? and PPG and was never really over the moon with the outcome.But the DeBeer has been great for me so far,and I get it at a killer price thanks to working in the transport industry.

Seems like it's DuPont V'S Europe in the paint wars though.And yes I wish you were closer too so you could help me make a harley powered bobber first before any custom paint job bro!
