Car tailpipe...

Post by Prof »

Not a chopper part, but an interesting example of how often the set up is more complicated than the job!

Harley brought in a tail pipe off his car that he wanted duplicated with a different end muffler (resonator?). Trick was the duplication of the brackets.

First bit wasn't too difficult, just lengthening a piece of pipe he supplied that I needed to cut off a muffler. Muffler entry was half an inch larger in diameter, so just a case of finding the right diameter pipe and shrinking one end with heat so it could be welded to the smaller supplied pipe...

Black arrows point to the two brackets needing duplication...

The piece of round bar on the resonator was first and I forgot a pic of the bits and pieces needed to set that up to be correctly positioned... welded with gas and stainless welding rod... nice thing about the versatility of the Henrob welder...

Bending the second duplicate bracket took some time...

To get it mounted in the identical position took some ingenuity and effort. Black arrow shows original and blue the top of the duplicate. Mig wire clamped to pipe and carpenters square locate it and hold it in position to gas weld. Hammer and I beam on left hold the whole show at the right angle and keep the two pipes parallel...

Final measurements look good and Harley hasn't been back to complain so looks like another successful TCS job...
